For Father’s Day weekend our family headed west to check out the North Carolina mountains.  On our way to our destination for camping in Asheville we stopped near Marion to hike to Tom’s Creek Falls.  The boys loved checking out the rocks and walking in the cool water.  We then hit the first of many breweries.  Pisgah Brewing Company had tasty beers, a great spot to play cards and kept us dry from the short rain.  We then had dinner at Wicked Weed Brewing Pub in downtown Asheville.  The food and drinks were enjoyed by all.  We walked a bit on that street and found a cool wall and bus to explore.  By then it was time to set up our camp and enjoy the sunset at Campfire Lodgings.  The views were breathtaking and hard to believe we were only 15 minutes outside of downtown.  Here are some highlights from our first day.

When we moved in May it was strawberry picking season so we visited the Patterson Farm in China Grove, NC.  It was a close drive from our house in Mooresville.  The boys had fun first playing on the pirate play set.  We then decided we should fill three large containers of strawberries.  I was surprised how many berries were on the plants and how large they grow compared to what I have picked back in Illinois.   We had a great time visiting the farm and couldn’t pass up the cow train ride.  The strawberries are delicious and have been enjoyed in shakes and smoothies.   We look forward to making this part of our traditions here.  Below are a few photos from our strawberry picking adventure.

Well it was National Donut Day on Friday, June 2nd – did you make sure to eat a delicious treat or picked them up for your kids or office?  I had good intentions to take the boys out for donuts at a local spot but our day got away from us.  So we enjoyed our donuts on Sunday.  We are trying to explore as much as we can in our new home town of Mooresville and found a great local donut shop.  Have you been to Mercy’s Daylight Donuts?  Well we all agreed after picking out our favorites that they are so fresh and delicious.  I am putting this on my must do again list (maybe once a week donut visit)  – already thinking about another apple fritter or the scrumptious blueberry cake donut I tried.  Here are a few photos from our take on honoring the National Donut Day!
